Tips to Enjoy Your Winter Outdoor Living Space

It is essential that your outdoor living area is a space that you can enjoy all year round, no matter what the season is!   Now it is winter here in Australia, don’t let the cooler weather stop you from utilising this special part of your home.  The colder months are still a wonderful time for outdoor entertaining and relaxing.  Decorating is the fun part, and there are many stylish and enchanting ways to transform your outdoor space into a snuggly haven from the cold.

  1. Fire pit

Of course, the crackle, warmth and glow of a fire pit really sets the right mood outside in winter time.  Fire pits come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and materials, and can be as simple or decadent as your budget will allow. You can go for a sophisticated built in option, a DIY project, or an affordable pit that’s ready to go straight out of the box.  Our wood burning brazier was made by my husband, repurposing the metal inner from one of our old front loading washing machines.  It is the perfect upcycle.  There are a number of online tutorials if this is something that you are interested in doing your yourself.

Plenty of seating is a must as the fire pit will naturally draw a crowd at gatherings and become an inviting place to enjoy on chilly winter evenings.

2.  Lighting

As the winter days are shorter, outdoor lighting is even more essential.   Outdoor lighting is a treat for the eyes at any time of year, but especially sets the right mood for a pretty winter wonderland in your outdoor space.   After the sun has set, the show comes to life with twinkling lights strung up everywhere.  There are plenty of outdoor lights available and solar charged are a great option for outdoor areas.

  1. Soft touch – Outdoor Cushions & Throws / Blankets

We all like to snuggle down into outdoor cushions on a cold night. Add plenty of Bungalow Living outdoor cushions to your chairs and outdoor sofas to entice friends and family to linger a little longer on the deck or terrace.   They are also perfect when chasing the sun during winter days, grab a few with a blanket and soak up the warmth.   Blankets and throws are essential and there are plenty on the market to choose from, or even pop into your local op shop and see if there are any pure woolen blankets or throws that can be reloved!

  1. Totally floored

Don’t forget about the floor when you’re creating a warm and toasty outdoor space. Outdoor mats can help block cool air coming up from below your verandah / deck, soften hard surfaces and keep them cleaner, particularly in outdoor cooking and dining areas. Bungalow Living Outdoor Mats also add extra colour and vibrancy – essential for dispelling winter gloom.

Outdoor Mats are not only great for adding colour to your outdoor space but also will limit cold air coming up from under your verandah!

  1. Day beds

A large and comfortable day bed is perfect for snuggling up outdoors in winter. Load it up with cushions and blankets and relax in the fresh air with your book and a cup of tea. Move your daybed to spot where you can catch the winter sun.
